Purpose
The Remedios Education Grant supports early-career radiology professionals—including radiology residents, fellows, and practicing sonographers—by providing funding to attend the SRU Annual Meeting. This award is intended to foster interest, education, and engagement in ultrasound among a diverse group of emerging leaders in the field.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Residency or Fellowship Status
    • Open to radiology residents and fellows (must be in fellowship at the time of the meeting).
  2. Practicing Sonographers, Sonography School Educators
    • Sonographers currently practicing in a clinical setting who are interested in attending the SRU Annual Meeting.
    • Sonography School Educators currently teaching who are interested in attending the SRU Annual Meeting
  3. Institutional and Geographic Diversity
    • Preference will be given to applicants from a range of institutions and geographic regions to promote equitable access.
  4. Demonstrated Interest in Ultrasound
    • Applicants should demonstrate a sustained interest in ultrasound through academic coursework, clinical experience, research, or related extracurricular involvement.
  5. SRU Fellow or Committee Member Support
    • A brief letter of support from a SRU Fellow or Committee Member, highlighting the applicant’s potential and commitment to the field of ultrasound.
  6. Financial Need
    • Consideration will be given to applicants who do not have institutional support for meeting attendance.
    • At the discretion of the Executive Board, international physicians from low resource settings may also be considered


Note:
This award is not based on research productivity, presentation history, or invitation to speak at the meeting. Its primary goal is to support education, exposure, and professional development in ultrasound.

Selection Process

  1. Application Requirements

    • A brief personal statement (300 words or fewer) describing the applicant’s interest in ultrasound and motivation for attending the SRU Annual Meeting.

    • One letter of recommendation from an SRU Fellow or Committee member

  2. Review Process

    • Applications will be reviewed by the SRU Membership Committee.

    • Selections will prioritize diversity in institutional and geographic representation, consistent with the outlined eligibility criteria.

    • Nominations will be approved by the SRU Board.

  3. Award Amount

    • For the 2025 SRU Annual Meeting, each recipient received $2,000 to assist with travel, lodging, and registration expenses.

    • Depending on the number of applicants and available funding, this amount may be increased or decreased in future years.

    • Checks will be distributed at the SRU Annual Meeting.

  4. Notification and Expectations

    • Recipients will be notified in advance of the meeting.

    • Attendance at the SRU Annual Meeting is required.

    • Awardees are asked to share their feedback on the program.

    • Awardees are asked to provide a picture to be included in the newsletter and take a group photo at the meeting.

    • If a recipient speaks at the meeting, they will show a slide indicating their grant support.
