I was privileged to be chosen as an SRU Ambassador to represent our society and attend the 45th Semana International de Ultrasonido held in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico from July 8-10, 2026. The meeting was jointly sponsored by the Federacion Mexicana de Radiologia e Imagen A.C. and the Colegio de Radiologia e Imagen de Yucatan. Invited faculty included ultrasound experts from South and Central America as well as Mexico. I presented 4 vascular ultrasound lectures as well as a “Hands-On” vascular session.
It was a wonderful experience. The quality of the lectures I attended was phenomenal, truly State-of-the-Art. The program was very clinically oriented and demonstrated advanced understanding of disease pathology on a molecular/genetic level. It was fascinating to observe the different imaging approaches between our countries and to learn about various clinical entities more common in this area than at home. I was especially impressed by many novel applications of advanced imaging techniques presented both by speakers and ultrasound manufacturers who are actively pursuing the application of new US technologies to a variety of clinical situations, not yet available/approved in the USA. It was very exciting and I returned home with lots of ideas.
Our Mexican hosts were extraordinarily welcoming. The Mexican food in the Yucatan was unlike any Mexican food I have had in the USA and delicious, and the sightseeing program was a huge amount of fun despite the hot weather.
I can’t wait to go back and hope that other SRU fellows have the chance to attend next year!
